ADVENTURES OF THE

“The danger of an adventure is worth a thousand days of ease and comfort”

— Pablo Coelho

Hi, I’m Max, the Scrambling Nomad.

I’m traveling the world on my trusty Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE, also known as Tara, the Green Goddess. I’m a Former Army Officer turned motorcycle adventurer, with a passion for people, wild places and adventure. I want to share my travels and my perspective of the world with you.

Come along for the ride!

My Story

Taking my healing journey on the open road.

My name is Max and I’m a former Army Officer. In my life as a soldier I deployed all over the world, however my time in the military ended abruptly and I was medically discharged from my old tribe.

Throughout my struggles with mental health there has been one constant, motorcycling. As I was questioning myself about what to do after my service, I realised that the only place I found peace and freedom was on my scrambler (named Tara!). Like so many of us that ride and travel we all know the therapeutic power of being on the move, and to me there is no better feeling than the open road. Motorcycling forces you into the moment, it forces you to pay attention to everything you do and everything around you, it forces you to be alive!

So one day as I was riding alone across the Atlas mountains in Morocco, I realised that this is what I needed to do. A pilgrimage around the world to shed my old identity, to become who I wanted to be, to expose myself to the world, to see it all, to feel it all and to learn to live again. So the decision was taken to ride around the world and that’s how my story began, how I finally saw a way through the fog of depression, a path leading to clearer skies and what better way than to jump on my bike and go for it, if not now then when!?

So that's my story. Well, part of it. It started with a long, painful battle with mental health, isolation, and depression which has finally led me to have the courage to follow my dream and have the courage to follow it and go for it!

I’m writing this next chapter of life as I go, mile by mile. Let’s see what life has in store for me next, we can’t change the past, or control the future, but we are alive NOW!

Adventure

Awaits

Meet Tara, the
Green Goddess.

I’d like to introduce you to Tara, the Green Goddess; my trusted Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE! Not the fastests or the best for this kind of adventure but she’s mine and I love her!

Starting from London, Tara and I will head across northern Europe, the balkans, then towards the caucasus via the middle east, across Eurasia to Vladivostock.

I’ll then be shipping us both across to North America and riding south down the continent to Ushaia where I will ship to Dakar and start the long return leg home through sub saharan Africa back to southern Europe and finally home.

It’s going to be a wild ride.

Riding to raise awareness and support.

This trip is not only a part of my own healing journey with mental health, but a call to arms to bring awareness and much needed funds to three organisations that do vital work in providing support to active serving personnel and veterans in need.

Combat Stress UK

Combat Stress is the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health. For over a century, They’ve helped former servicemen and women with mental health problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. Today they provide specialist treatment and support for veterans from every service and conflict, focusing on those with complex mental health issues.

The work they do is life-changing and often life-saving. No one else does what they do.

Invictus Games

The Invictus Games Foundation supports the recovery and rehabilitation of international wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women by offering opportunities for post-traumatic growth, helping them regain purpose, identity, and future after injury. Founded in 2014 by Prince Harry in London, the Foundation organizes the Invictus Games, a biennial adaptive sports competition that emphasizes personal achievement over medals. It not only transforms the lives of participants but also their families. Beyond the games, the community continues to expand, engaging more individuals through sports, esports, and adventurous activities, fostering long-term physical and mental well-being and global connections among veterans.

Mission Motorsport

Mission Motorsport, the Forces' Motorsport Charity, plays a crucial role in aiding the recovery and rehabilitation of those who have been impacted by military operations. By leveraging the exhilarating world of motorsport and the opportunities within the automotive industry, we provide a unique therapeutic avenue that aids in physical recovery and mental well-being. Through specially tailored programs in racing, mechanical engineering, and automotive employment, we not only help individuals recover from their traumas but also retain valuable skills that empower them to reintegrate into civilian life. Our mission extends beyond recovery; we aim to foster long-term resilience and create sustainable career pathways that ensure participants can continue to grow and succeed long after they have left the service.
